John D. Montemayor

John D. Montemayor, age 58, of Edwards, Missouri, passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, at his home. He was born November 11, 1965, in Kansas City, Kansas, the second son of Frank & Marilyn (Drennon) Montemayor, Jr.

John grew up in Mission, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1984. He continued his education at Vatterott and Sullivan where he studied HVAC and building engineering. He was employed by Kansas City Southern Railroad, The City of Spring Hill Kansas, The City of Lenexa Kansas, Heist Point Lutheran Ministries and MFA Oil.

John also lived in Spring Hill, Kansas and Lincoln, Missouri.

John was a volunteer firefighter and first responder. He started with the Mission Kansas Volunteer Fire Department and ended with the Northwest Fire Protection District in Edwards, Missouri. John was very involved with 4H when his sons Jake and Kyle were growing up, both in Miami County, Kansas and Benton County, Missouri. One of his Benton County Poultry Teams was among the top in the nation.

John was on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors while he lived in Lincoln, Missouri.

John was always active in his community, which included The American Legion Post #217 in Warsaw, and The Guardians of the Children in Warsaw. John was an outdoorsman his whole life; he loved hunting, fishing, being in nature, and John especially loved being at the lake.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Louise Montemayor, his Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and some very dear friends.

John is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Clampitt) Montemayor, Stephanie (Jake) Penn, Jake (Amanda) Montemayor, Kyle Montemayor, stepdaughter Aniyah Boucher and adopted daughter Nicole Montemayor; stepsons Wayne (Brittany) Price Jr., Daniel Boucher, grandchildren: Karlee and Gauge Penn, Reed and Grant Montemayor and Taylor Thorburn, and eight of Cindy’s grandchildren and nieces. His father Frank Montemayor Jr., his siblings; Frank (Modesty) Montemayor III, Monica (Steve) Roy. Brother-in-law Scott (Bonnie) Clampitt, sister-in-law Melissa Clampitt, and his father-in-law, Steve Clampitt, Uncle Richard (Dianne) Montemayor.

John’s nephews and nieces Stephen Montemayor, Kevin (Arceli) Montemayor, Chase (Miranda) Roy and Niece Shelby (Jeff) Elder
Great-nieces, Aspen Roy, Evelyn Elder, Eleanor Elder and great-nephew Chase Roy Jr. Along with several cousins and many friends that became family like Brother Roger Pearl.

Special thanks & love to Manisha “George” Phaipanya, Cindy’s niece and John’s in person doctor companion through almost all of his cancer treatments and amputation.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 21st, 2024 @ 1pm, Lazy Acres Baptist Church, 46 Lazy Acres Dr, Edwards, Mo 65326

Followed by a Taco Dinner provided by the Edwards Fire Department at the Church.

You can honor John by lending a hand to a neighbor, sharing a meal with a stranger, fishing with a friend, helping a child, or simply spending the day outside in nature.

John will be missed by all who have known him, but he is truly at peace.
