Lincoln, Cole Camp Take Second, Third In Kaysinger

On Friday, the second seed Lincoln Lady Cardinals defeated seventh seed LaMonte, 16-1 in first round action at the Kaysinger Conference Tourney held in Lincoln.

Alyssa Mellen led off with a triple and scored on a short pop-up by Rebekah Helland. Courtney Stephens scored on an error and that was all the run support

Braylin Paxton needed in pitching a four inning no-hitter. She struck out 10 and walking just 2.

Helland went 2 for 3, driving in 3. She also made the defensive play of the game with a diving one hand mid-air catch on a line drive hit in the gap between first and second base in the fourth frame. Stephens also went 2 for 3 while scoring 4 times and driving in 1.

On Saturday morning, Lincoln defeated sixth seed Tipton, 14-6, who upset third seed Stover on Friday at Cole Camp.

After scoring 1 in the first, Lincoln scored 9 in the second to blow the game open.

Paxton gave up only 2 hits but walked 8 and struck out 9.

Tipton made a run in the fourth with 5 runs but Lincoln tacked on 3 more to put the game out of reach.

Tipton's Hagerman took the loss and also struggled with control walking 8 and allowing 8 hits.

Stephens again had a big bat. She finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's and scored 3 runs. Lexi Dulaban went 2 for 2, walked twice and drove in 1 run.

In the championship game later that afternoon, Lincoln faced the number one ranked Class 1 team in the state in the undefeated (11-0) Northwest (Hughesville) Lady Mustangs.

Northwest defeated Green Ridge, 12-2 and Cole Camp, 14-0 to reach the finals.

Lefthanded batter Grace Walker lead off with a textbook triple poking the ball to left field. Kari-Ann Smith singled in Walker to draw first blood.

In the fifth, the Lady Mustangs showed their stuff as Sofi Amaya tripled, Smith doubled, Olivia Butler grounded out scoring a run, and an error plated a run.

A big difference in the game was that Valarie Meyer didn't walk a single batter. She earned the win as she gave up 7 hits and struck out 9.

Paxton walked 8, struck out 6 and gave up 7 hits. With the score 8-0, the Lady Cardinals woke up their crowd scoring 2 in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth before falling victim of defeat with the 9-4 final.

Dulaban, Danika Gillespie, Cadence Harvey and Paxton each drove in 1 run.

Northwest moved to 12-0 and Lincoln fell to 8-4.

The fourth seeded Cole Camp Lady Bluebirds took third place in the Kaysinger tourney, beating Tipton, 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln.

Emma Thayer pitched a 1-hitter, struck out 8 and walked only 2 in the trophy win.

Kaitlyn Whitworth drove in 2 runs on the day. Defensive ace Gracie Thompson, in center field, had 2 hits in the game.

On Friday, the Lady Bluebirds dominated Windsor, 21-7 at home in the first round match up.

On Saturday morning in Lincoln, Cole Camp played the top ranked team in the state in Northwest and lost 14-0 in that semifinal.
