Charles Melvin Nelson, age 85, of Warsaw, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, Missouri.  He was born on June 7, 1933 in Iconium, Missouri the son of Marion and Cora (Knapp) Nelson.  He grew up near Deepwater, Missouri and attended school there. On March 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mary Nelson.  Following their marriage they made their home in Kansas City, and unto this union one son and one daughter were born.  They later made their home in Raytown for twenty-nine years, moving in 1991 to Edwards and in 2000 to Warsaw.  On March 10, 2013 he was united in marriage to Sandra (King) Owen.
Mel served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1959 as a Gunners Mate.
Mel owned and operated Mel’s Plumbing in Raytown, Missouri.  He enjoyed helping in the soup kitchen and mission work in Kansas City for several years.  He also enjoyed playing guitar in the nursing home the past several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, one son James Nelson, two brothers Billy Nelson and Melburn Nelson, one sister Betty (Nelson) Black, a step daughter, Jan Kimberly Sutton and a great grandson, Xavier Sanders-Payne.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Nelson, of Warsaw, a daughter Tammy Underwood, and her husband Darryl, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri a stepson, Kelly Owen, and his wife Diane, of Garland, Texas, five grandchildren; Sarah Bollinger, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Mary Payne, of Brigham, Utah, Carrie Gibson, of Clinton, Missouri, Matthew Sutton of Roeland Park, Kansas and Katie Sutton, of Westwood, Kansas, a brother-in-law Danny King, of Warsaw, five great grandchildren; Logan and Drew Bollinger, Oliva McCaslin, Bailey and Shambre Gibson, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services for Charles Melvin Nelson will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M.
