Harold Thomas Gillham Jr. passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Present at his passing was his wife, Judith, sons; Timothy, wife Janet, Joe and two grandkids; Amber of Raytown, Missouri and Ryan of Warsaw, Missouri.
Harold served in the Navy during the Vietnam War as a Seabee. He was a member of the American Legion Post 217 of Warsaw. He was a member of Benton County Elks Post 2783 and served two terms as Exalted Ruler. He was a life member of Carpenters Benefit.
He moved to Warsaw in 2003 after he retired from Dept. of Corrections in St. Joseph, Missouri as a Capt. He helped open the Pacific, Cameron and St. Joseph prisons.
Harold has won 3 times, Grand Champion in BBQ competitions. He loved to cook and took this as a hobby after retirement. He was called upon to help many new cook in the area. He loved teaching them all the ins and outs of smoking and BBQ. He loved to cook for his family and friends. We will miss his famous BBQ ribs and brisket.
He loved to hunt, fish and he especially loved his grandkids; Christopher of Independence, Brandon of Springfield, Cassandra, Corbin, John Haas of Olathe, Kansas, Derek Hoff of Mt. Vernon, Katie Clevenger of Cassville, Ryan of Warsaw, Amber of Raytown, Andrew, Peyton and Sterling of Gladstone.
Harold loved his wife, Judith, their four remaining children; Tim, Candace, Amanda and Joe, eleven grandkids and eight great grandkids; Ethan, Ella, Uriah, Addlyn, Sebastian, Sophia, Deliha and Max.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothe Ann Barry Gillham and sons, Michael Hoff, Kansas City, Kansas and Anthony “Tony” Gillham, Warsaw, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life will be held at American Legion Post 217 on Friday, January 14, 2022 from noon to 3 P.M.
Private burial will be held at a later date at Leavenworth Military Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas where son Michael Hoff is buried.
