David Malecki of Edwards was sworn in as the Benton County District 1 Commissioner on Monday morning at the Courthouse.
Governor Mike Parsons appointed Malecki to finish the term of Commissioner Dale Estes, Jr. who resigned from the position.
Malecki has lived in Benton County since 2008 on a farm originally purchased by his father when his father was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in the 1950’s.
Malecki lived most of his life in the Kansas City area.  He has worked as a parole officer, budget analyst and as the manager of the bus system for the Kansas City International Airport for 40 years.
Malecki and his wife Janice are the parents of a son who is a teacher in the Independence School District and the grandparents of two granddaughters.
Taking care of road work as well as the building of the new Benton County Jail are a couple of Malecki’s concerns for the County.
While he is eager to serve Benton County, Malecki is not sure at this time whether he will run for the position of South Side Commissioner when his term expires.
“I am learning a new job so I’m not sure about what I will do after the term is over,” said Malecki.
