Nona Ethel (Beason) Harrington

Nona Ethel (Beason) Harrington, 86, Warsaw, MO passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at her home in Warsaw, MO.
Nona was born on November 24, 1931 the daughter of Noel and Nellie (Ware) Beason in Daviess County, Missouri near the old Clear Creek School. She was raised on a farm where she loved helping do chores after walking the 2 miles home from school. The chores involved milking 4 or 5 cows, gathering the eggs from 25 or 30 hens, and feeding the animals. She also gained appreciation and love for music from her dad, Noel, who played violin for many square dances and even played radio shows with the “Missouri Ridge Runners.”
Nona met Nevin in the summer of ’47 as a junior in high school, where they were both involved in sports. They were married on April 21, 1951 in Hamilton, Missouri. She attended college for one year at Northwest Missouri State University as in those days you could teach with just one year of college. She taught at Prairie Center Country School for the 1950-1951 school year where she had 7 students. In 1976, Nona received her Bachelor’s Degree from Northwest Missouri State University, her Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri in 1989, and her Specialist Degree in 1995 from Southwest Missouri State University. Nona taught at Chillicothe, Hamilton, Ashland, South Callaway, and retired from Camdenton School District as Technology Coordinator in 2003. Nona came out of retirement to be the Postmaster at Cross Timbers until just a few years ago. She loved meeting and visiting with the friendly people of Cross Timbers.
Nona completed her education while raising a family of 5 children. Through the years, the family moved many times for job opportunities. With each move, finding a church home was a top priority. Nona thoroughly enjoyed bible study and worship service, attending as often as possible. She enjoyed attending the activities of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, feeding the hummingbirds, traveling, fishing, reading, hunting arrowheads, video editing projects, and keeping the Harrington Family records/calendars. In retirement, Nona and Nevin enjoyed watching the Saint Louis Cardinals games on TV and rarely missed a game.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nevin; half-sister, Ellouise Richardson; half-brother, Carl Beason; sons, Michael and Keith Harrington; brothers-in-law, Ralph, Marvin, Lowell, and Wendall Harrington; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Utter, Naomi Rees, Marguerite Maharg, Mytle Qualls, and Letha Mae Baxter.
