Richard Wade Land

Richard Wade Land, age 74, of Warsaw, MO, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He was the oldest child born to Richard Lee and Wanda Lee (Chitwood) Land on July 19, 1943 in Dyer, Arkansas.
The family moved to Raytown, MO where Wade graduated from Raytown High School. On June, 26, 1961, he enlisted into the United States Navy, serving during Vietnam on the USS Kitty Hawk. He was honorably discharged on June 25, 1967.
On November 8, 1976, he was united in marriage to Shirlee Ann Longdon in Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Bates City, MO until moving to Kansas City in 1990. Wade was an auto worker for General Motors and was transferred to the General Motors plant in Monroe, Louisiana in 1990. Following his retirement in 1995, they moved to their home here in Warsaw. He was a member of UAW Local 93 of Kansas City, MO.
Wade was a member of the Poplar Baptist Church of Warsaw. He also was a member of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge #653 A.F. and A.M. of Warsaw, and held the office of Secretary for 18 years, the Osage Valley Chapter #502 of the Order of the Eastern Star where he was presently serving as Worthy Patron, the Ararat Shrine Club of Kansas City, MO and the Warsaw Shrine Club, currently serving as Secretary. He enjoyed his fraternal associations and fellowship with his brothers.
Wade was preceded in death by his wife, Shirlee, in 2011, a daughter, Melinda Ramsell in 2016 and a step-son, Leonard Applegate.
Surviving are two daughters, Melissa Lindsey of Pleasant Hill, MO and Dana Griffin of Kansas City, MO, two step-sons, Willard Applegate of Independence, Thomas “Wayne” Henry of Warsaw, a step-daughter, Brenda Adams of Fremont, Nebraska, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving is three brothers, Gary Land of Rogers, Arkansas, Mark Land of Appleton City, MO and Don Land of Arkansas, two sisters, Kathy Land of Waymart, PA and Marsha Tice of Spokane, Washington, his friend and companion, Christina Thompson and extended family, Melissa Akins and Kenny Thompson, other relatives and many friends. 
Funeral services for Wade Land will be Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M., Friday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Warsaw, MO. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in care of the Reser Funeral Home.
