Thelma Salley

Thelma
Salley
Thelma Lorraine Clinton Salley, age 95, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 at the Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born in Calhoun, Missouri on July 20, 1924 to Bessie E. Sidewell Clinton and Isaac Loranzie Clinton.  Thelma grew up in Calhoun, Missouri and had many fond memories of her family and friends.  She often talked about growing up on Strawberry Lane just outside of Calhoun.
She raised five children, Charles Miers, Elenor Lorraine Miers Cannon, Steve Pickens, Bill Pickens and Eddie Pickens.
Thelma also lived in Kansas City, Missouri and worked at Katz Drug Store.  She later moved to Oak Grove, Clinton and Windsor, Missouri.  She moved to Warsaw in 1969 and was employed for Unitog.  She was united in marriage to Dr. Guss Salley on November 2, 1974.  She continued her hobbies of sewing, quilting and crocheting.  She helped her husband in the office until they closed the practice due to illness, and soon after Dr. Salley passed away on May 8, 1981.
Following the loss of Dr. Salley she continued her faith and proceeded with her favorite job of all, “Grandma Salley.”  She still enjoyed her hobbies but her children and grandchildren came first, along with her daily walk with the Lord and her strong belief in God.  She taught and showed her strength to everyone she met.  She was not boastful, but she would show her strength quietly.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warsaw.
She was able to live in her home in Warsaw until 5 years ago, when she moved into the Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation Center and lived the last few years in the Memory unit.  While she was homebound, she would have visitors from the church that showed her the love of Jesus.
Thelma will be deeply missed by her nurses and her children are so thankful for the nurses, aides and everyone that enjoyed “Grandma Salley” or “Mom” and are sure she will be an angel to watch over them.  We feel it was all in God’s plan she passed on Mother’s Day.  She was welcomed in Heaven on a special day, set aside to honor her.  It was a perfect day for her to meet her family, friends and relatives that preceded her in death.
Along with her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Irma Clinton Davis and Oline Clinton Davis, one son, Charles Lee Miers and one daughter Lorraine Miers Cannon.  She was also preceded in death by many loving cousins, relatives and friends.
Thelma is survived by her three sons, Steve Pickens, and his wife Tina, of Warsaw, Bill Pickens and his wife Becki, of Warsaw and Eddie Pickens of North Dakota, her grandchildren, Terry and Jeff Baker of Arizona, Stacy Cannon, and her family, of Arizona, Stephanie Adair, and her husband Shawn, of Warsaw, Carly Pickens, and her husband Jamal, of Texas , Judson Isaac Miers of Oklahoma, Kiela Ast, and her husband Lucas, of Warsaw, Jonna Pickens of Kansas City and Alyssa Pickens of Kansas, great-grandchildren, Payton, Payge, Xander, Blythe, Conner, Naomi and William, and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
