Vandals Repeatedly Strike Drake Harbor

Vandals have been throwing park tables into the water at Drake Harbor during the past three or four weeks. Warsaw City Manager and Planner Randy Pogue said that after City crews retrieved one table from the water, three more were thrown in shortly thereafter.
“Rip Rap boulders were piled on the tables that were thrown in the water to hold them down,” said Pogue. “Although the tables were retrievable, they had some damage from landing on rocks under the water. Earlier this year vandals broke lights on Bledsoe Trail and it cost the City $5,000 to replace globes and lights. About two years ago graffiti was painted on the restroom at the parking lot on the west side of the Swinging Bridge.”
Pogue said that if this vandalism continues, our fear is that the drive-thru Christmas light displays on the harbor, and Christmas on the Harbor activities could be impacted. The Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department, plus Chamber of Commerce and other organizations and businesses have put in a lot effort this time of year to make the city a magical place to enjoy.
“We are asking the public to assist us in stopping the vandalism,” said Pogue. “Anyone who notices something suspicious that could be related to vandalism should not interfere, but call the county non-emergency dispatch number at 660-438-9555. The Warsaw Police will then be notified so they can respond to the call.
