The WHS and the John Boise Middle School archery programs have been moving right along during the recent cold spell. One would imagine that the deer population isn’t too happy about this, but there are some tremendous young archers on the rise in Benton County.
On Tuesday, they had a dual meet at home with Skyline and then on Saturday they traveled to Clinton for their last tournament of the year. Now they are off to the Bulls-Eye Target State Tournament on March 22 and 23 in Branson.
Head Coach Jackie Downing commented,"2,400 archers from the state of Missouri will be competing in this  incredibility competitive tournament. In order to qualify as an individual a minimum score of 270 as a middle school student and 275 as a high school student is needed."
Below are the qualifiers.
Tier 1 Qualifier:
Bradley Brown, Sophomore; high score for the season of 294. Brown is also known throughout the school as an outstanding Frisbee competitor.
Tier 2 Qualifiers:
Donna Pitts, Sophomore; high score for the season of 284
Trevor Downing, 8th Grade; high score for the season of 278

Alcantara is also a state cross county champion at just a freshman.
To be good at archery, good eye and hand coordination, a steady hand,  and a lot of practice are needed.
We commend all of the students and Coach Downing for their participation and their hard work this season. Congratulations to all and best wishes in the upcoming tournament.
