Meuschke Takes Reigns As New Cole Camp Mayor

Under new business Thursday eve, after beginning its monthly meeting with its former City Board and dealing with some old business, Cole Camp City Clerk Dawn Paul read a certification of April 5 municipal election results, furnished by County Clerk Susan Porterfield, and the meeting was temporarily adjourned for swearing in and seating of officers. The certification showed Robert Meuschke was elected as the City’s new Mayor, Jon Beckman was re-elected as the City’s West Ward Alderman, and Mindy Fox was newly elected as its East Ward Alderman. Following this was selection of Alderman Cristin Fox as Mayor Pro Tem; Mayor Meuschke, Alderman Cristin Fox and Clerk Paul as signers of documents relating to bank accounts, and assignment to committees as follows: Streets - Cristin Fox and Mindy Fox; Traffic – Rath and Beckman 
The meeting opened at about 7 PM, with Aldermen Cristin Fox, Greg Ives, Beckman, Rath present. Mayor Burton Bormann presided; Clerk Paul recorded. First business was to approve the eve’s agenda, minutes of the March 17 regular session and the March 31 closed session, then agree to pay bills presented and approve a financials report. Under old business, Aldermen thought the City’s ARPA funds should not be used to bring Co-Mo's internet services into the City, but instead be used to upgrade infrastructure presently owned by the City. Also under old business, the group approved P&Z’s recommendation that a Lutheran School Association’s request for street closure between the Lutheran School and Trinity Church, for special occasions, at the Association’s expense. And, just before the temporary pause in the meeting, the group awarded two plaques to retiring officers Bormann and Ives.  
The Library Commission reported that work on its parking lights continues, and the next meeting of the Commission will be at 10 AM May 18. Mayor Meuschke said the City’s nuisance and building ordinances have been approved, and the Police Department will start issuing nuisance tickets about July 1. Clerk Paul reported auditors have postponed a City audit to June 6-8; adding that a dog vaccination clinic will be held May 14, 1-2 PM at the City Shed.
Police Chief Jeff Canfield reported a Department police vehicle was recently involved in an accident. It will be repaired near the end of May, with $1,000 in repair cost to be deductible. He added his Department has recently issued 10 citations, including several for driving while intoxicated and speeding. And lastly, he said Ace & Eights Pawn Shop donated some shotguns to his Department. PW Director Heath Roark stated PW employee David Rainey has resigned. 
The meeting closed about 8:40 PM. These sessions are usually held on 3rd Thursday eves; visitors are welcome.
