BCSO Discusses Sick Time With Commission

Benton County Sheriff officers Major Dean Noll and Lieutenant Kelly Lowe met with the Benton County Commissioners at their November 12 meeting to request that the sick leave policy be amended for the Sheriff’s Office so that any unused sick leave would be “banked” for sheriff’s office employees to use at the Sheriff’s discretion if an employee has exhausted his/her accrued sick leave. The Commissioners will review the current policy and reach a decision pertaining to this matter. There was also a discussion on the need for additional storage space for confiscated merchandise.

Attorney Jason Heany, of Dull and Heany Law Firm, met with the Commissioners to present a petition for road vacation, described as follows: a tract of land being a portion of the plotted roadway in part of Doc’s Retreat, Unit 3, and located in part of the northeast quarter of Section 10, Township 40, range 21, beginning at the northeast corner of Lot 7, Block 3, thence easterly along the north line of said subdivision to the northeast corner of the platted roadway, thence southerly along the east line of said platted roadway to the easterly extension of the south line of said Blcok 3, thence westerly along said extension to the southeast corner of Lot 7 Block 3, thence northerly along the east line of Lot 7, a distance of 100 degrees to the point of beginning. James G. and Denise Hennessy were also present. Presiding Commissioner Steve Daleske state that it appears that the vacation could block access to other properties and the Commissioners will not act on this vacation.

Benton County Economic Development Director Jo Ann Lane met with the Commissioners to present her monthly report of economic development efforts throughout Benton County.

A citizen who resides on Woodland Road met with the Commissioners to indicate erosion problems along that road. Commissioner Scott Harms state that he will look at the area for possible maintenance.

Teresa Piersee-Watson, Kathy Sullins and Tracy Barton spoke with the Commissioners on behalf of the Benton County Salvation Army chapter, requesting resource funding for the group in the amount of $10,000.

Commissioner Berry made the motion to approve the bid for Road District #1 for unleaded gasoline from Zollicker Oil Company at a cost of $2.44 per gallon. The motion passed. The other bids were received from Warsaw Oil Company at a cost of $2.475 per gallon and from MFA Oil Company at a cost of $2.87 per gallon. The county accepted the bid most advantageous to the district.

County Treasurer Rick Renno presented his weekly financial report. County Clerk Susan Porterfield submitted bills for approval and payment. Porterfield also noted that budget worksheets area ready to be presented to officials in order to begin the 2025 budget process. Collector David Brodersen presented his distribution report as of October 31, 2024. He noted that the statements were mailed a few weeks ago and collections have been good.
