Betty Braun, age 98, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at her home in Clinton, Missouri.
Betty Jean Braun was born on January 30, 1927 in Henry County, the daughter of Walter Batschelett and Ruth Robertson Batschelett. On November 17, 1946, Betty married Walter Eugene (Buddy) Braun.
Betty attended Clinton High School, where she twirled the baton. After graduation, she attended the college now known as the University of Central Missouri. She was a member of the Meadowlake Ladies Golf Association, Chapter EN PEO, the Clinton Methodist Church, and a charter member of GFWC Lorna Kemper Club. Betty loved to play bridge with her friends and was the first lady to make a hole-in-one at both Clinton and Meadowlake Country Club. Betty also loved traveling the world and enjoyed traveling with her sister, Darlene. Betty was known for her many friends and her style. Betty and Buddy purchased a farm after marrying and she continued to run the farm until her final day.
Betty is survived by her granddaughter Lana Markway and husband Taylor Markway; her son-in-law Richard Wirsig; her step-grandson Blaik Wirsig and wife Cindy Wirsig; her sister Darlene Woods; her niece Janet Parks; her nephew Mike Woods; her sister in-law Mary Batschelett; her niece Suzette Batschelett; her nephew Anthony Batschelett; and her niece Angelia Batschelett Entrop; niece Jennifer and David Cummings. She also leaves behind numerous friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Buddy Braun; her daughters Suzetta Busby and Sharlene Wirsig; her parents Walter and Ruth Batschelett; her brother Dale Lee Batschelett; and her father and mother-in-law Henry and Violet Braun.
Funeral services were held March 1, 2025 at the Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, MO with Pastor Monty Stratton officiating. Special music included “Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Friends” with David Cummings as pianist. The casket bearers were Grantt Wirsig, Andy Cummings, Adam Cummings, David Cummings, Jake Wirsig and Mike Woods. Johnny Knaus, Blaik Wirsig, Dr. Gus Wetzel and Russell Rhoads were honorary bearers. Interment followed in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, MO.
Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
