How Old Are You?
-Genesis 47:8

Jacob stood before Pharaoh and was asked just one question, how old are you? Jacob was 130 and probably the oldest man Pharaoh had ever seen.
We see the Lord Jesus at 12 in the temple. The next time, he is 30 at his baptism. Then at 33 and a half on the cross of Calvary.
Young people say age doesn't matter yet they want to be 16 to drive a car, 18 to vote and 21 to buy liquor. Most people retire around 65. You think age matters?
Our body and mind tells us we are old. We can't do physical activity as well as we once did and we forget things. Our hearing and our eyesight goes. We got old in a hurry. Too many birthdays, I guess.
The Lord Jesus at 12 sought out doctors of the law and asked questions. We would do well to seek out men of wisdom and listen and learn.
At 30, He is at His full manhood. Years of carpenter work had made him strong perhaps. Now He starts his ministry. Long days of walking. He's tired, slept and was hungry. Healing and preaching was his manner. The religious leaders constantly beguiled Him. He came unto His own and His own received him not. His friends forsook Him and one betrayed Him.
Jacob told Pharaoh, 'few and evil have the days of my life have been.' -Genesis 37:9
Some here may feel that way. Any of this sound familiar?
What are you doing for the Lord? What Is your ministry? What have you done for the Lord?
At 33, He dies. One day, we will die. What then?

Lincoln First Baptist Church

Hello fellow Christians. May God bless you this week. We were to have a baptism today but because of all the rain (which I’m thankful for) we had to postpone it for two weeks. Many on the prayer list and some having surgeries this week. Keep them in your prayers.
We have three young men who will be graduating this year. Two are from Lincoln and one from Cole Camp. We wish them well in their future.
Galatians 5 was the text for today. Sin is our bondage. We don’t live under the law any more as Paul talked about in this chapter of Galatians. We need to read and understand the Bible for ourselves. Know the Bible so you can tell others. We have the Holy Spirit who can help us understand the Bible. Get rid of people who are hindering your faith. A little sin leavens the all. Don’t use your freedom to go against God. Love each other.
Only the Holy Spirit can save you. Always grow in God. The Holy Spirit is our teacher. Study your Bible and figure it out for yourself and get help if you need it. Just don’t believe what someone tells you. You will do less damage in your life if you let Jesus have it. Pray to understand the Bible.
Remember Mother’s Day is May 12.
TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD; BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO THAKES REFUGE IN HIM. PSALM 34:8. TALK TO YOU NEXT WEEK.

In Matthew 18:21-35 Peter asks how many times should he forgive someone who has sinned against him, up to seven times? Jesus answered, seventy-seven times. Jesus tells them the Kingdom of Heaven is like a king wanting to settle accounts with a man who owed him an enormous sum of money he could not pay, so the king ordered the man, his family, and his possessions, be sold. The servant begged the king to be patient and the master took pity on him, cancelled his debt, and let him go. Now the servant goes out and finds one of his fellow servants who owes him a small amount and demands the man pay him immediately. The second servant begs for mercy and says he will pay if the first servant is patient with him. This is not ok with the first servant, so he throws the second servant in prison until he can pay. The other servants tell the master, and the master tells the first servant, I cancelled your debt, and you should have had mercy, yet you demanded payment from one who owes you. The first servant was turned over to the jailer to be tortured until he could pay all he owed.
Would we forgive someone seventy-seven times? Jesus would! It’s not an easy, especially when they keep doing the same thing. We can forgive and set reasonable boundaries for ourselves and others. Boundaries don’t mean we don’t forgive. Boundaries and forgiveness are not the same. Mercy is the way we treat all humans all the time. Jesus says we should have mercy for others. Jesus looked at all the sin in the world and He still loves us. There is something worth redeeming in every human and Jesus sees it – why can’t we? Do we have mercy for other people or not? If we live according to Matthew 18, our world would be a different place. He loves us all the same!

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Prayer is not a duty. It is a privilege. Paul tells us to pray without ceasing. He does not mean we should pray every minute of our waking hours. He means prayer is so important to us that we never abandon the practice. Prayers continually pop into our heads as we go about each day. We hear that someone is sick, and we immediately pray for them. We hear about a death, and instantly, our prayers go out to the family. We pray for the lost. We pray for our children. We pray for our ministers. We pray for our missionaries. We pray for our government. We never abandon the practice of prayer.
Does prayer make a difference? It does unless God has asked us to do something that has no impact. I doubt that is the case. Our text says prayer is the will of God, along with thanksgiving. If God wills that we pray, we should pray, our hearts full of rejoicing and thanksgiving.
Prayer should never be a last resort. It should be our first action when confronted with a problem, issue, sickness, or death - a need of any kind. God works through our prayers in ways we often do not understand. But He does hear and answer the prayers of His people, so pray!
