Drakes Chapel UMC
This Sunday we celebrated Pentecost. The birthday of the church and when the Holy Spirit came to rest upon the people. It was a beautiful spring day and the sound of the cicadas were apparent in the countryside. Guess those noisy little insects have arrived in numbers and have no regard for a peaceful, quiet Sunday morning.
Pastor Margie’s message focused on helping us understand the Holy Spirit. God’s love for all of us and how we are to spread His word of everlasting peace and grace. By being His hands and feet, we may find a moment in time when the Holy Spirit comes over us and we truly understand what it feels like to be a Disciple of Christ.
Many are now planning to attend graduations and parties galore. Several of our grandparents praying for the stamina to make all the festivities. It is also the time of year where weddings are being planned and summer vacations are just around the corner. Pastor Margie’s calendar shows church conferences to attend in June and July. Sorry Margie, your vacation time is on hold!
Memorial Day is upon us and we are reminded of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Drake’s Chapel have made it a tradition to assist placing flags in Inglewood Cemetery. It a very holy way to honor those who gave their lives.
If you are in the area on a Sunday, we invite you to join us. If not in person on Facebook Live, just look for Margie Briggs. Worship begins at 9:00. Come a little early for a cup of coffee and a handshake or a hug. We hope you make the drive. We are located 5 miles east of Clinton off Hwy 52. Just look for the sign. Travel mercies for those traveling and prayers for blessed holiday weekend.

First Baptist
On Sunday, special guest speaker Clint Morgan, Children’s Pastor from Broken Arrow in Oklahoma, delivered a powerful message titled ‘The Must of Jericho’. Examining Luke 19, Pastor Clint described the story of Zacchaeus, a rich tax collector who climbed a tree to see and hear Jesus. At the time, knowing His days were numbered, Jesus was passing through Jericho, speaking of the Kingdom of God. Jesus’ arrival in Jerico was greatly anticipated by many, even by Zacchaeus, who sought to see who Jesus was. Zacchaeus, considered a traitor, was not well liked due to his profession. However, when Jesus saw him in the tree, He called Zacchaeus to come down, insisting He must stay with him that evening. Jesus spent His last day in Jericho in the home of a man who was hated. At this, the crowd grumbled. Yet, Zacchaeus was so humbled by Jesus’ acknowledgement that he began offering restoration to the community by giving up half of his possessions. Jesus affirms His purpose to seek and to save by modeling acceptance, even for those as seemingly unworthy as Zacchaeus. We too should be willing to interrupt our own journeys to stop and talk to those around us. We are all sinners, saved by God’s grace!

First Presbyterian
As they gathered to hear the Word proclaimed on the first Pentecost, we too gathered on Pentecost Sunday to celebrate the coming of the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is the majesty and awe of God’s continuing presence. May we ever be aware of God at work around us and we shall see His power in a new way. Catch the Spirit was the title of Rev. Nancy Gillard’s message taken from verses in Acts 2: 1 – 4 and 37 – 42. Our hand chimes choir played “Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart” arranged by Larson.
A colorful display of adorable dresses are hanging in our church foyer. These garments will soon be headed to children in Africa as part of the yearly mission project. We are thankful for each lady who volunteers her time and effort to sew these dresses. Rick rack, lace, binding, pockets and decorative stitching are among the little details lovingly added to make each one unique. Be sure to stop by and admire them before they are shipped to their destination in June. The Presbyterian Women are also sponsoring another collection for the Samaritan Center. Toothbrushes in all sizes are needed for oral hygiene. These necessary tools are not a part of donations received from Harvesters. Donations may be placed on the foyer shelves.

Trinity Lutheran
The following message is from Wilda Johnson, a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church:
Wow! What an unexpected, thought provoking, and blessed several months I have just experienced. First and foremost, I thank our Heavenly Father for his almighty and merciful love and care for me. Second, thanks to all of you for your concern, prayers, cards and love. Itcertainly helped me get through some tough times.
I would like to share something that was laid on my heart during this time… “We never know what lies ahead of us (minute to minute). Live each day and minute as if it were your last day on earth. Do and say things to our loved ones (and others) that we often put off, especially, to knowJesus Christ as their Savior. It could be your last chance.” Thanks again. God bless!
It seems the Christian religion has a distinctly bad reputation in social media and other places, especially among “Christians.” These professed people of great faith, regularly post memes that indicate religion is the enemy of faith, and corporate worship is meaningless. According to these folks, the only “real Christians” are those who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, apart from the Christian religion or a church building.
How wrong they are.
Christians who regularly attend church aren’t hypocrites who are just pretending to be believers to impress their neighbors or co-workers. Most people today are secular, non-believers who never attend church themselves, and who aren’t impressed by those who do.
The Christian religion has been the cradle of the Gospel for centuries, and local Christian congregations are filled with baptized believers in their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. These Christians are the norm, not the exception. It is those “Christians” who never, or rarely, darken the door of a Christian church who are the exception. People of faith will want to attend a Christian church regularly and worship God in spirit and truth. Those who aren’t, won’t.
The Christian Church, where the Gospel is preached and the sacraments are administered rightly, is the one place where a person can be certain the Holy Spirit will be present to work and strengthen faith in all who are present.
Go to church. Regularly. It’s the one place where the Holy Spirit has promised to be present to work salvation and faith in all people. Amen.

Urich Baptist
Urich Baptist Church has been serving the Risen Savior for over 150 years. Come join us each Sunday at 10:30 A.M. for worship service and be blessed. Today, Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from 1Peter 5: 5-14. This passage is telling us to live right in Christ and for Him. We are to be clothed with humility and not be prideful. We should cast our anxieties on Him and not be distracted. We must retain a thoughtful demeaner. We should be watchful, careful, and abide in the Lord or we may stray away from Him. We must resist the devil, love others, read the Bible, and share the Gospel. Have a blessed week and share some love and kindness.

Valley Center United
This is the day that our God has made! What a perfect Pentecost Sunday it was as we worshiped outside in the beauty of the prairie that surrounds the church! The birds were singing, the spring flowers were blooming and the sound of beautiful hymns rang out! We certainly felt the presence of the Lord on this Sabbath morning!
We welcomed and celebrated George Huber this morning as a new member. We send birthday wishes to Doris Jean Neuenschwander. Jim Neuenschwander updated us on the plans for our church’s mission trip this summer. It is always a wonderful time of fellowship and of serving others in need.
In the Bible, we read the story of Jesus telling the Disciples that he was going to be with God and they were to go out and spread the word about what they knew and what they had seen. At first they may have been a little confused at everything they had just experienced, but when they felt the power of the Holy Spirit come to them, they put away any doubts they may have had. They were energized and many of those who heard their message were amazed.
The invitation that we get when we receive the Holy spirit, reminds us of who we are and gives us the foresight to see what needs to be done. We feel energized and understand what it means to be more kind and gentle and realize everyone’s worth. We become the body of Christ.
When we find our purpose and as we boldly speak up to share the gospel, our faith begins to grow.
May the glory of the Lord endure forever. Amen
