Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 am for pre- church food and fellowship. This is a special time for visiting, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00 am.
Our prayer list this week includes Dalton, Wes and Tawnya Conner, Millie Redding, Debby and Clint Land, Sondra Short, Amber, Pat and Brecklynn Dittmer and Dave Burson; the wars in Israel and Ukraine, our military men and women and their families, as well as those in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: The Lord made us a beautiful day celebrate and praise Him. This morning we enjoyed chocolate chip cookies made by Carol Lane for pre-church fellowship. Thanks to her for sharing. Happy Anniversary to Jeremy and Magds Reed. After the congregation sang “Onward Christian Soldiers”, Patty Dump reminisced that was the first song she recited on her violin, when she was a child. Verna Walters related she found some old letters to her Mom from her brother who was overseas in World War II. She found enjoyment in reading them.
Special music today: Shelby Bicknell sang, one of his songs, “Are You Here”, accompanied by Jeremy Reed on the drums. It was a blessing for us to witness the talent of these men; Jeremy Reed shared “Where The Stars and Stripes And The Eagle Fly” sung by Aaron Tippin.
We are a diverse nondenominational group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun as well as praise the Lord during our church experience. We have Sunday school for the youngsters during our church time with, Debbie Joy as teacher. It is such a joy for Ms. Debbie and the youngsters have a great time.
We invite you to be our guest any Sunday morning at 10:00 am. Come dressed as you are comfortable, plan to receive a blessing for your effort, bring the youngsters and we will be blessed by your presence.
Thought for the week: Every Day may not be good ......... but find something good in every day. Laugh, Love, Live!

On Sunday, members and guests were blessed with a powerful performance by The Kingsman, a gospel group from North Carolina that has been performing for nearly 70 years, through generations of various individual performers. The Kingsman delivered God’s message through songs of how He changes hearts and lives, how nothing is impossible for Him and how He frees us to live in victory through His amazing love. Also, Pastor Pat Findley took a moment to reflect on Olde Glory Days and how the time allowed for deeper conversations. Sometimes, the right question of how someone is actually doing can bring tears from what they are truly dealing with inside. Pastor Pat spoke briefly from Exodus 14 where God leads His people, through Moses, to a moment of difficulty before He makes a way, miraculously, by parting the Red Sea. God has not brought us this far to leave us here. The Lord will fight for you! God surrounds us and protects us more than we realize. If God leads us to it, even the most difficult situations, God will lead us through it!

A few days ago we celebrated the freedoms we enjoy in our beautiful country. Fireworks, picnics, baseball, cookouts, time with family are just some of the blessings we enjoy in this wondrous gift called life. Let us remember to be grateful to God for his generous outpouring of grace on our country and not take our freedom for granted. Take time to pray for the United States of America and its leaders.
The anthem this week “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” arranged by Don Wyrtzen was played beautifully by Gay Smith. Using 1 Samuel 17: 1 – 7 Rev. Nancy Gillard brought the message titled Chosen by God.
The collection of old prescription glasses for the Festival of Sharing is an on going mission project. The basket on the foyer shelf is filling up and these old outdated prescriptions will make a difference for children and adults in Mexico’s Yucatan State.
The toothbrushes collection for the Samaritan Center has come to an end. Approximately 180 toothbrushes will benefit those in need. Good dental health leads to a healthy life and happy smile.

“God Has Not Given Us the Spirit of Fear”
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Fear:
A distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. The power of God, why should we have fear of people or things that cause danger?
As a burning bush, God called Moses to go and rescue his people. God told him he was sending him back from where he ran away from.
Fear came into Moses, and he asked God, who was he to go and tell Pharaoh anything. Moses made up excuses. Fear will cause us to make a lot of excuses. How can we argue against God, who is all power?
God told Moses to tell Pharaoh that “I Am” sent him. God demonstrated his power to Moses by telling Moses to throw his staff to the ground. When Moses complied, the staff turned to a snake. God told him to grab it by the tail and when he did, it turned back into a staff.
He told Moses to remove his hand from his cloak. When he did, his hand was leprous. At God’s direction to put his hand back in his cloak, when he took it out a second time it was back to normal.
Moses used his stuttering as an excuse, and God told him that his brother Aaron would go with him to speak for him. Sometimes God will put someone with you to remove the fear. Moses got used to the power of God (Deuteronomy 28:47-48)
God wants us to serve him with gladness of heart, and he will supply all of our needs. Fear can cause us to be disobedient.
God will often work behind the scenes, like he did for Queen Esther. Her Uncle, Mordecai, sat at the gate and refused to bow to a promoted Haman, who expected everyone to bow down to him.
Haman’s hate for Mordecai was so great that he plotted to have all t uh e Jews killed. The enemy always wants to destroy all people. Fear came over Esther once she learned this truth. She also had fear of approaching the king without an invitation, it could mean death.
She, her Uncle, and the Jewish people, prayed and fasted. Then she was ready to see the king aware of the risk. Fear will keep us from doing God’s work.
When fear comes upon us, we have to get our hearts right and know that God will be with us because he is able to bring us out of any situation.
Rom 8:14-15.
We should trust God and not fear man.
Rom 12:2.
Become transformed and remove the fear.
We have to stir up the gifts of God. If he sends us to do a work he will empower us to do it. He did not give us a spirit of fear. Do not allow fear to stand between you and God.

As we gathered to worship the Lord we are reminded of how fortunate we are to live in a country where we are free to worship. Lonny Bramell rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin. Randy Vogt and Lonny Bramell collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 6:15-23. This passage reminds us that if we believe and have faith in Jesus Christ our Savior, we will have eternal life with Him. Through this faith we will be changed internally to reflect His goodness. We still may sin, but with our dedication and obedience to God, our faith is true freedom from guilt and freedom in righteousness. Eternal life and all the blessings we have on earth are our rewards for true faithfulness. Have a blessed week.

We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us next Sunday morning.
We send birthday wishes to Kim Meszaros and Debbie Vanslyke. John and Peg Neuenschwander hosted the “Sweet Sunday fellowship” after church! We congratulate Jeremy and Lauren Denison on the birth of their son! This little one has two big brothers to welcome him home! Next Sunday after services, the mission group will have a presentation on their resent trip to Shannon County Missouri. There will be a carry-in lunch afterwards. It was truly an amazing trip and everyone agrees that it was a wonderful time of working together, sharing their talents and of great fellowship.
Andy Lasswell and Donna Hughes led us today in our service.
We come today to ask God to graciously open our eyes to the beauty of life and to help us to always look for what is good and true in all situations. We seek the gift of true vision. We sometimes spend too much time looking for what is wrong in life and then dwell on it. With God’s glory and power, we can look for the good, do what is right and be the loving, caring Christians that we were meant to be.
For the Lord is good, his mercy is everlasting and his truth endureth to all generations.
