Cleo Hunter, age 91, of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Warsaw, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the Degreef Hospice House in St. Louis. She was born on March 25, 1933 in Shawnee Mound, Missouri the daughter of Norman and Florence (Frisch) Kreisel.
Cleo grew up on a farm near Shawnee Mound and graduated from Leeton High School in 1950. On November 20, 1952 she was united in marriage to James Mack Hunter. They made their home in Clinton, Missouri where Cleo worked for Clearfield Cheese. Later they moved to Laredo, Missouri and then moved to Holden where she received her degree in education and taught middle school home economics and art. Cleo went on to receive her master’s degree and stayed at Holden as their Middle School Counselor.
She loved to sew and quilt. Cleo volunteered in the Cub Scouts when her sons were young and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star/PEO in Holden. She was a member of the Holden Garden Club and later the Warsaw Garden Club. Additionally, she won several ribbons for her flower arrangements at the Missouri State Fair. Cleo was very knowledgeable about plants and was willing to teach others.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mack Hunter one brother Glen Kreisel and her great grandchild, Taylor Peters.
Cleo is survived by two sons; James Mack “Jim” Hunter, Jr., and his wife Laurie Bruffey, of Wildwood, Missouri and Jerry Hunter, and his wife Eileen Trudo-Hunter, of Gordon, Texas, six grandchildren; Bethany, Nathaniel, Kathryn, Connor, Caitlin and Gabrielle, eight great grandchildren; Lily, Blake, Riley, Evie, Ethan, Isabelle, Archer and Logan. She is also survived by one brother, Marvin Kreisel, of Warrensburg, Missouri.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Reser Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral at 3:00 P.M. at the Holden Cemetery in Holden, Missouri.
