David William Sieving

Posted

David William Sieving, 72, of Cole Camp, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Research Hospital in North Kansas City surrounded by his family. He was born on March 3, 1953, in Sedalia, Missouri, a son of Julius Ernest and Elva Ruth Katheryn (Wischmeier) Sieving.

David was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church at North Lincoln, where he remained a life member. He grew up farming with his dad and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971.

He was united in marriage to Beverly Mehrens on January 15, 1977, in one of the biggest snowstorms most will remember and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary just this year. They were blessed with a daughter, Heather, to whom he was always just "Big D". In time, Heather married Josh Young and David was blessed with two grandchildren, Jordan and Chase. PaPa took great pride and joy in his grandchildren and spent many hours with them, giving many tractor and four-wheeler rides and watching countless softball, football, and basketball games. On sleep overs, his Mickey Mouse pancakes were the best.

David farmed all his life on his family's century farm near Ionia, doing what he loved. He planted beans in crooked rows and pulled out the weeds by hand and hauled his grain to town in his '59 International. He loved IH tractors and driving around the country block to see what the neighbors were up to. He frequented the repair shops and elevator to catch up on the latest and drove the dog to the creek. He rose and retired with the sun and saw no need for a vacation, unless the wife helped you see the need.

David always worked part-time even when farming both for Kim Heimsoth in Ionia at the mill and for Harold Steffens at the elevator. He went to work for Benton County Road District full-time in 1997 and worked there until he retired as north shop foreman in 2018. He took pride in his work and believed he was a good grader man. He continued to work after retirement for the Ionia Special Road District grading those dusty country roads he loved. He HATED snow but was always the first out to clear the roads as soon as the storm passed and worked diligently until everyone could get out.

He was on the board of the Ionia Road District and at Producers Exchange #84. David served as a volunteer for the Lincoln Fire District and was a trustee and on the finance board at Immanuel Lutheran Church at North Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Beverly Sieving of the home; daughter, Heather Young and Josh of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jordan Young of Warrensburg and Chase Young of Lincoln; sister, Sharyn Mueller and Raymond of Enid, Oklahoma; brother, Dennis Sieving and Julie of Sedalia; aunt, Marilyn Gertz of Sedalia; sisters-in-law, Debbie Stewart and Bruce of Lincoln and Cathy Henry and Dell of Knob Noster; brother-in-law, Jr Mehrens and Marsha of Lincoln; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Elva Ruth Sieving, and an infant sister, Sandra Joyce Sieving.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at North Lincoln with funeral services to begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Stephen Rutherford officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of the Fox
