Elizabeth H. Spickert, 97, of Warsaw, Missouri, died Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton.
She was born May 7, 1928, in Afton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles William Farr and Faith Harriet (Yates) Farr. On August 25, 1945, she married Thomas Elwood Chambers and they were the parents of four sons, Donald, Monte, Darrell and James Bolton who they took in and cared for at the age of 10. On February 4, 1972, she married Leo Lawrence Spickert in Sedalia, Mo., and gained three bonus children, Terry, Cheryl and Teresa. Leo preceded her in death on November 17, 2001.
Elizabeth led a full and active life. In high school, she played on the volleyball team. She worked at the International Shoe Factory and Gerbes, both in Windsor. She then worked for Wal-Mart for 25 years as a department manager and helped open the Wal-Mart store in Warsaw. She was an active member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Warsaw. She was a member of Women’s Baptist Outreach of the church and the Widows of Warsaw club. She and Leo enjoyed square dancing with the Grin & Square and the Damsite Square Dancers. They loved to travel and have many photo albums of trips taken together.
She loved her flowers and garden and made zucchini bread every fall to give away to friends and family, even mailing a loaf to her son in Wyoming. She also enjoyed crafting, sewing, making scrapbooks for her family, and genealogy. Elizabeth enjoyed being independent and preferred to do things for herself. She was kind and generous with her time and enjoyed helping others. Christmas was a special time in her home as she loved giving presents to all her visitors. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include 2 sons, Donald E. Chambers (Jeanne), Windsor, Mo., and Monte D. Chambers, Rock Springs, Wyoming; 3 step-children, Terry L. Spickert (Donna) of Columbia, Mo., Cheryl B. Crossland, Windsor, Mo., and Teresa L. Olson (Ollie) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. In addition to her husband Leo, she was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Darrell Chambers who died in infancy and James D. Bolton; a brother, Leonard M. Farr; and 2 sisters, Catherine Willcockson and Esther Voelzke.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Barry Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
