The Benton County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Benton County, Missouri. It was founded in 1969 by a group of countywide citizens and friends to preserve treasures and artifacts. Through historic displays at the museum, their website, educational programs and special projects, the museum shares history with the community and welcomes visitors to the area. Visitors are welcomed to the museum where around every corner a story is on display of the Native Americans in the Benton County area and the development of the towns Cole Camp, Lincoln and Warsaw. Other villages, train stops, Butterfield posts and crossroads are also included with historical and entertaining stories of its citizens. Take a trip along the 1804-1985 timeline highlighting events that took place in Benton County, the USA and the world during that period. Enjoy the one room schoolhouse and general store displays!

Visitors can also checkout the antique tool room and view tools of all kinds dating from the 1800's.

The Gunstock Capitol of the World exhibit displays artifacts and pictures when Bishop and Fajen Gunstocks were major employers in the county and were known worldwide for their quality craftsmanship.

Be sure to visit the military display honoring Benton County natives who served in all branches of the military dating from the early days of the Civil War to the present.

The museum is honored to have an entire room dedicated to Native American artifacts thanks to the late Steve Hanson, Benton County resident, who generously donated his extensive collection of arrowheads, hunting points and primitive tools to our museum.

It is with great excitement that the Benton County Historical Society announces that, through a generous donation, they will begin breaking ground in mid-October on an addition of 2,700 sq ft to the current museum. With that announcement, a donor has offered a dollar for dollar match for gifts for the benefit of expanding not only the physical building but to allow the story of our past to be preserved. As interest grows, the modern era of technology will be added using resources from individuals, other historical societies, the state and national archives and humanity organizations which make learning about Benton County interesting.

Folks are encouraged to consider any gift, knowing it will be matched dollar for dollar. As the end of this calendar year approaches, gifts may be considered as a tax deduction to a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization. A gift to the museum may be made in memory of or in honor of a loved one or friend.
