The Lincoln Cardinals ended the 2024 football season at 5-6. Similar to the last two seasons, injuries and low numbers kept the Cardinals from attaining their pre-season goals.
The talented trio of juniors, Riley Sanders, Dawson Parrott and Anthony Srader were plagued once again with injuries. Parrott missed several games, Sanders played injured, while Srader sat out the entire season after shoulder surgery in late summer.
Seniors Chase Young missed a game, Cam Everhart missed a couple and several others had set backs due to injury.
Senior lineman Matthew Cook will be another one that will be hard to replace next season.
Young was their speed and Everhart was their staple on defense.
Sanders had a school record breaking passing game against Skyline in district play. Young had over 1000 yards receiving in ten games.
Their biggest victory was a 48-28 win over arch rival Cole Camp on the road.
When you cannot practice 11 on 11 due to a small roster, and you cannot tackle all out in practice due to fear of injury then your program will probably have some game short comings.
Pass defense was a huge problem along with key turnovers.
Coach Brad Drehle has yet to field a healthy team with sufficient numbers.
Their weight room performances were top notched and a new summer could bring a new day for Lincoln football. So don't count the boys in red out just yet.
