On January 3, 2025, Warsaw, Missouri, was rocked by a violent incident at the Lake Hills Motel on Highway 83. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw Fire District, and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a distressing scene of violence that escalated from a verbal to a physical altercation, resulting in a stabbing and shooting.
The confrontation involved Shawn Paul Murphy, 55, of Racine, Wisconsin, and local resident Kevin Noland, 55, whose life was tragically taken too soon.
Noland, remembered for his generosity and loyalty, was fatally stabbed and pronounced dead at the scene, a devastating blow to those who knew him.
Rob Coskey remembers Kevin as more than a friend.
"He was a hero in every sense to me and many others in Benton County. As an EMT, he showed courage, compassion, and dedication; always ready to help those in need. His kindness and selflessness will forever inspire me and many others," Coskey said.
The suspect, Murphy, was injured by a gun shot to the leg by Roger Hurr, 61, in an attempt to intervene.
Murphy faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action, with the community awaiting further developments.
This incident has deeply affected the Warsaw community, prompting reflections on the life of Noland.
Dovetta Burch described Noland as a lifelong friend, and a beacon of kindness and selflessness.
