James L. Summers, Sr.

James L. “Jim” Summers Sr., age 93, of Warsaw, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the Kindred Hospital Northland in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on January 19, 1932 in Cash, Arkansas the son of Fred and Helen Summers.

He grew up in Greenfield, Arkansas and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. After receiving a medical discharge, he moved to Kansas City where he met and married the love of his life, JoAnn Vance on June 28, 1952. They made their home in Kansas City, moving permanently to Warsaw in 1990.

Jim worked as a truck driver for Graves Truck Lines and was a volunteer firefighter for over 60 years. He also served as a flagman for the Kansas City dirt and asphalt race tracks for more than 20 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, James L Summers, Jr., two brothers and a sister.

Jim is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of the home, four children; Brenda Summers, of Sedalia, Missouri, Bonnie Katon, of Peculiar, Missouri, Jeff Summers (Valerie), of Foley, Alabama, and Dwayne Summers (Sherri), of Venice, Florida, ten grandchildren; Melissa Serber, Christopher Katon, Jamie Dice (Joe), Jill Dowdy (Breklin), James L. “Buddy” Summers, III, Jasmine Summers, Patrick Prewitt, Brian Summers (Rebecca), Jackson Summers and Kathryn Summers, John Hilt. Eleven great grandchildren; Teagan Beach, Brenden Hatch, Braelyn Dowdy, Bellany Dowdy and Breklin Dowdy II, Kandence Hunsacker, Aiza McClinton, Alli McClinton, Amaiya McClinton, Devon McClinton,Ben Torres, as well as two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services for James L. “Jim” Summers will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at the Warsaw Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be held Monday evening May 19, 2025 at the Reser Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Interment will follow the funeral at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Warsaw.
