Posted

Jerry D. Mayes, age 72, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

He was born on September 29, 1952, in Eldorado, Kansas, the son of Bruce and Bonnie (Carner) Mayes. At the age of sixteen, Jerry met the love of his life, Patricia Holloway, who was fifteen at the time. The two were married on September 19, 1969, and shared 56 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two sons.

Jerry worked for Yellow Freight, where he proudly devoted over 30 years of service. A true outdoorsman, he had a deep passion for fishing, hunting, and archery, interests he passed down to his sons. He also had a fondness for tractors, once owning as many as thirteen.

Above all, Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather-to-be, and friend. He was a faithful member of Soul’s Harbor Church in Tightwad, Missouri, and had a deep love for the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mayes of the home; two sons, Jason Scott Mayes and his wife Karen of Lone Jack, Missouri, and Wesley Jerimia Mayes of Warsaw, Missouri; three sisters, Debra Mayes of Amarillo, Texas, Kristal Vaughn and her husband Mike of Layton, Utah, and Brenda Hilburn and her husband Bobby of Warsaw, Missouri; two brothers, Mark Mayes, Bradley Mayes and his wife Sariah of Waterloo, Nebraska; three grandchildren, William Mayes of Lone Jack, Missouri, Joseph Mayes of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Jakob Mayes of Kansas City, Missouri; and one great-granddaughter on the way. He also leaves behind many dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wesley Mayes and Larry Mayes.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Soul’s Harbor Church in Tightwad, Missouri.
