A group of entrepreneur-minded Benton Countians gathered in Lincoln’s Foster Hall on Monday, November 18 to compare ideas on how to increase tourism in Benton County, in the future. The meeting was similar in style to those conducted a few years ago when the decision was made to hire a full time Economic Development Director. That has proven to pay back many dividends in the assistance given to new growth and business in all three communities.
The attendees were gathered at different tables and asked to categorize the things we already have to draw visitors and the things we want to add for the future. Bonus already existing includes two lakes, Kaysinger Pioneer village, Boutiques, Antique Malls, Campgrounds, Spoonbill Great parks, Drake Harbor Ampitheater, Lincoln Fly-in, Axe throwing, Bowling and Cole Camp Fair to name just a few.
The group was then asked to write down who the people/organizations/stakeholders that you feel would be good ambassadors for Benton County moving forward.
Next they listed what would make a tourist want to return? Some of these were not feasible at the present time but goals for the future. The list included affordability and for the most part the County’s destinations already offer that when compared to other locations.
One table was asked if they were a tourist what would make them want to visit. Listed were family friendly motels, the lakes, trails for bicycling and walking, Food, Communication available, wineries, playgrounds, the fish hatchery and the Visitors Center.
What would make people return? Convention Center with hotel and meeting room. Arcades and themed restaurants. Drake Harbor, Events and festivals, Water Park, Marinas with gas docks, and placing mile markers in the channels.
This was the first of the meetings that will be on-going in 2025. It is very important to attend and give your ideas and feedback to the group to draw up a game plan for the future. So please mark your calendars for Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. on January 14 in Foster Hall in Lincoln.
