Marilyn Elizabeth Roark Drake, 86, of Warsaw, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born February 19, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Len and Elizabeth Roark. Marilyn grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Center High School in 1957. She went on to attend Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. During her time at Drury, she was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, served on the editorial board of the college yearbook, and was elected vice president her senior year.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Bob Drake, and the couple made their home in Warsaw during their first summer before moving to Columbia for a year. They later returned to Warsaw permanently, where they raised their family. They were blessed with three children: Bob Drake III (Mary), Beth Drake, and Susan Johnson (Ralph). She is also survived by six grandchildren — Scott Drake (Kelly), Zach Hixson, Erika Manford, Andrea Kauffman (Jordan), Dwaine Johnson, and Alex Johnson — along with nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
Marilyn was deeply involved in Republican politics throughout her life. She served as President of the Republican Women, District Chairman of the Benton County Committee, and 4th District President. She was also a member of the Missouri State Republican Commission. In addition to her political work, Marilyn was an active member of Friends of the Library, the MNO (Mothers’ Night Out) Club, and enjoyed playing bridge with her weekly bridge group.
Growing up in Kansas City, Marilyn’s love for the Royals began at a young age, and she was also there to see the Chiefs become a team. Her support for both never wavered — she was a loyal fan through every win, loss, and season in between.
A dedicated educator, Marilyn taught in both Warsaw North and South Elementary Schools, as well as John Boise Middle School. She retired after a rewarding 31-year career in education.
