Mary Sonja Peters, age 80, of Warsaw, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026 at her home.
She was born on March 7, 1946, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the daughter of Carl and Sybil Nissen. Sonja spent her early years in Albuquerque before moving as a teenager to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1990, she moved to Warsaw.
Sonja found great joy in the outdoors. She loved hunting, fishing, and tending to her garden. She also dedicated many years of her life to working as a professional house cleaner, taking pride in her work and the relationships she built with those she served. She was known for her giving spirit, volunteering for several years with
Benton County Hospice. She was also a devoted member of Lakeside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Carl Douglas McClain; one brother; and four sisters.
Sonja is survived by her loving husband, Gary Peters, of the home; three children, Molly Sybil Wright and her husband Robert of Kansas City, Missouri, Dean Keith McClain of Caldwell, Texas, and Jennifer Mary Mouser and her husband Dennis of Independence, Missouri. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Reser Funeral Home, 101 W. Main Street, Warsaw.
