Michael James Elkins, age 78, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 29, 2025. He was born on May 11, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Robert and Faye (King) Elkins.
Michael grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Washington High School. In 1965, he married Charlene (Martin), and together they had three children, Michell R. Elkins, Michael R. Elkins and Charles R. Elkins. Michael worked for many years at Payless Cashways, and in his free time, he enjoyed traveling to rodeos where he competed as a bronco buster.
Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and shooting trap and black powder. He was also passionate about reenactments, sharing his love of the outdoors with others. Michael was a proud member of the Mountain Man Association and an honorary member of the Pow-Wow Indian Association.
In 1994, Michael moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in Ivy Bend, where he lived and worked for Hentges tree service for over 20 years before settling in Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Charles Elkins.
Michael is survived by his companion, Ruby Gerdts, of the home; his daughter, Michell R. Elkins, of Kansas City, Kansas; his son, Michael R. Elkins and his wife, Rhonda, of Kansas City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Ashley D. Ridgway of Kansas City, Kansas; and Alexis S. Elkins of Kansas City, Kansas and one great-grandchild, Carter R. Williams, he is also survived by his half-brother, Russell Saltzman and his wife, Diane, of Kansas City, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements for his cremation are under the direction of Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw.
