Nelson August Eckhoff

Nelson August Eckhoff, 87, of Warsaw, formerly of Sedalia passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on July 8, 1937, on Balke Prairie near Cole Camp, Missouri, a son of Lawrence Dietrich and Elda Anna Louise (Brandt) Eckhoff.

Nelson attended Balke Prairie School graduating eighth grade on April 6, 1951. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church at Brauersville, where he was baptized on July 25, 1937, and confirmed on May 27, 1951, by Pastor R. Kranz. His confirmation verse was Revelations 3:20.

He worked on the farm, hauled milk for Emma Creamery and Walter Fischer. From 1960-1962, Nelson served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis in Germany and served in the US Army Reserves until 1966. After his discharge, he moved to Sedalia where he worked for Rival Manufacturing. He left Rival as a supervisor in 1980 and then in 1984, went to work for Waterloo, where he retired in 1999.

Nelson enjoyed collecting antiques, hunting mushrooms, fishing, deer and rabbit hunting down on Big Buffalo, and attending church at Brauersville.

He is survived by his sister, Elda Ruth Bryson of Sedalia; brother, Kenneth Eckhoff and his wife Linda of Cole Camp; sisters-in-law, Armilda Eckhoff, Geri Eckhoff, and Deborah Eckhoff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Elda Eckhoff, sisters, Alma Dey, Ella Ann Knierim, and Rose Scott, brothers, Marvin Eckhoff, Eldon Eckhoff, Virgil Eckhoff, Ralph Eckhoff, Leroy Eckhoff, and Rodger Eckhoff, sisters-in-law, Mary Eckhoff and Margaret Eckhoff, and brothers-in-law, Bill Dey, Randy Scott, Eckhardt Knierim, and Bob Bryson.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Brauersville Immanuel Lutheran Church near Cole Camp where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Eugene Moll officiating. Burial will be in Brauersville Lutheran Cemetery near Cole Camp with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 305 of Cole Camp. Pallbearers will be Warren Dey, Donald Eckhoff, Steven Eckhoff, Garrett Fisher, Russell Knierim, Ryan Oelrichs, and Dennis Scott.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Brauersville Ladies Aide or Brauersville Lutheran Church in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
