New Initiate, New Initiatives For Chapter EN

Chapter EN, P.E.O. met on Thursday, June 13, at First Presbyterian Church, where the officers, led by President Nancy Gillard, initiated Linda J. Wilson of Clinton into the chapter.
Donavon Beck from Compass Health presented a program prior to the meeting. Donavon spoke on the variety of services available in our area, including a 24-hour 988 helpline that people can call if they need to talk to someone at any time.
The June meeting, attended by 24 members, included a report from Kristi Kenney on the Nancy Calvird Shoe Fund that provides shoes for children, especially important to families getting chilren ready to go back to school. The shoe fund is affiliated with the P.E.O. chapter, whose members serve on its board, and was set up as a memorial to Calvird.
An officer’s training meeting, led by Nancy Gillard, centered on the importance of chapter members volunteering in the community in the coming year, exemplifying the kindness, caring and consideration that P.E.O. strive to show to its members and to everyone with whom they associate.
Linda T. Wilson of Urich was scheduled to give a report of the Missouri State P.E.O. convention in Columbia, but was unable to attend the meeting, so will present her report in July. A memorial service for Gloria Seddoris, a long-time chapter member, will also be presented at the next meeting.
Kristi Kenney and Sunny Johnson were co-hostesses for the June meeting.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic, educational organization that supports higher education opportunities for women through a a low-interest loan fund for college or trade school tuition, continuing education grants for women returning to college to finish their education, and scholarships for graduating high school seniors, women in doctorate programs, and women from other countries to study in the United States.
P.E.O. also owns and supports Cottey College, a four-year women’s college in Nevada, Mo. that promotes developing leadership skills that prepare women for leadership roles in their careers. For more information, go to peointernational.org.
