Nightmare On Lamine Street For Cardinals Against Midway

A winnable game on Senior Night turned out to be a nightmare for the Lincoln Cardinals against Midway on Friday night in Lincoln.

Missed tackles and turnovers were the flavor of the evening for a fairly well mended Lincoln team.

Midway running back Trevyn Adams, whose name was called over the public address system some forty times, scored from 10 yards out at the 2:17 mark.

Quarterback Brodie Cook then hit Blake Russ in the end zone for the 2-pointer and it was 8-0 after one.

In the second frame, Braeden Benham intercepted a pass and raced to the seven. Lincoln's Riley Sanders rambled behind good blocking into the end zone at the 10:12 mark. Cam Everhart marched in for the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 8 all.

From there it was all Midway. Adams ran through four tackles to score at 3:12. Their 2-oint try was good on a pass to Carter Coble to make it 16-8.

With 54 seconds left in the half, Blake Russ caught a nice pass and made a move on his defender and was gone for a 35-yard TD. The PAT failed on a swinging gate formation and it 22-8.

Sanders did hit Dawson Parrott with a nice catch on a bomb to the 24. Sanders threw an interception caught by Russ in the end zone. Midway took a knee at the 22 to leave it at 22-8 at the break.

Adams took over in the second half. Sanders threw three interceptions and the ugly half was over at 36-8. Adams stats were unavailable.

Coach Brad Drehle said, "We missed tackles and dropped a few passes. We had two interceptions in the end zone. We either score one or six. We can't seem to even it out."

Sanders was 15 for 19 rushing with the TD and was 16 for 25 passing for 167 yards. He threw 4 interceptions with 2 fumbles.

Everhart was 17 for 56 on the ground with the 2-point conversion. Receiving, Chase Young was 6 for 63 and Parrott caught 5 balls for 74 yards.

If #7 Lincoln beats #10 Skyline at home on Friday, they would play number #2 Adrian on the road. Adrian's only loss was in week 2 of the season, 28-21 to still undefeated Warsaw.
