Rosie Lea Brown, 83, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born on June 4, 1941, north of Stover, Missouri, on the family farm, a daughter of Edwin H. and Mattie M. (Windler) Kroeschen.
She grew up on the farm, milking cows, baling hay, feeding chickens, thrashing molasses, canning, and riding her horse Dobbin. Rosie was baptized on September 14, 1941, and confirmed on May 3, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Pyrmont, and attended Hinken School through the eighth grade. In 1957, she was the only girl that entered and then won the Stover Fair Greased Pig Contest. She enjoyed playing baseball, softball, volleyball, donkey basketball, and cheerleading. In 1959, Rosie graduated from Stover High School.
After graduation, she and her best friend, Ruthie Burlingame, caught the train in Eldon to Kansas City and on Monday morning went to work for Hallmark Cards. Rosie worked many jobs during her life, from 1964-1969, she worked at Rival Manufacturing. For three years, she was a house wife and babysat in her home. She also helped mow grass and remove snow for Brown Lawn Care Service and took on odd jobs.
In 1965, she moved from Kansas City to Raytown and in May of 1987 worked for thirteen years for the House of Lloyd in Grandview. She retired and went to work part-time for Dollar General in Kansas City as a cashier and stocker and then as a packer of medical supplies at McKesson in Kansas City.
Rosie enjoyed hunting and fishing with the family and riding motorcycles on family camping trips to Colorado. She enjoyed traveling to all fifty states with her co-worker and good friend, Cheryl Jones.
On November 25, 1960, at Kansas City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Sherman Harvey Brown. This union was blessed with the gift of two children, Teresa and Dwayne.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa A. Collins and Kevin of Lincoln; son, Dwayne H. Brown of Kansas City; grandchildren, Rachel Brown Turner and Travis D. Davis and Ashley; and three great-grandchildren, Johnny Pryor, Jayvon Pryor, and Jayden Turner.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Mattie Kroeschen, sister, Minnie Ann Kroeschen, brothers, Otto Edwin Kroeschen and Louis Adolph Kroeschen, and nephew, Louis Adolph Kroeschen, Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Brushy Cemetery, near Lincoln, Missouri.
