Ruby Mae Simpson, age 99, of Tavares, Florida passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024 at the Tavares Hospice House in Tavares, Florida.
Ruby Mae (Johns) Simpson was born on June 29, 1924 in Safford, Arizona. She was the daughter of David Johns and Nancy (Allen) Johns. She married John Albert Hall and together they had a daughter, Deloris Marie. After John’s passing at a young age, she and Deloris moved to Tracy, California to be with family. This is where she later met and married Kenny Simpson. They were married 67 years when Kenny passed away in 2015. She and Kenny traveled the world including China and Russia.
She was beautiful, kind, funny, and an excellent cook. She loved to dance and taught her daughter at a young age. Ruby was a very good golfer; she had a 3 under par handicap and won numerous trophies while she played. Ruby worked all her life as a telephone operator. Early in her career she worked as a telephone operator during WW2 when it was a switchboard.
Preceding her in death was her husband Kenneth Simpson, her parents David and Nancy Johns, brothers, Clyde and Ferrel Johns, and Joie Sanders.
She is survived by her daughter, Delores Lewis (Doug) of Ontario, Oregon; her sisters Doris and Verona, 4 grandchildren; Corina, Cristina, Brent and Cynthia, and 9 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held July 18, 2024 in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, MO.
Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
