A public hearing will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2024 in City Hall in Appleton City at which citizens can be heard on the property tax rates proposed to be set by the City of Appleton City for the 2024 tax year. The levy will be set at $1.476 upon approval.
The Annual Labor Day Picnic at Immaculate Conception Parish (606 Kansas Ave., Montrose) will be Monday, September 2. The menu is fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, dressing, green beans, slaw, bread & butter pickles and homemade pie for only $15 for adults, $10 for children age 5-10 and preschoolers eat free. The all-you-can-eat dinner is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the basement of St. Mary’s School, which is handicap accessible. Outdoor tent seating and carry-out are also available. There is a huge country store open from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. There will be corn hole, bounce house and bingo open at 11:00 a.m. A homemade pie auction will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by the cash and quilt raffles.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Heartland Regional Food Business Center (RFBC) have announced the availability of more than $3.7 million in Business Builder Grants to support small, mid-sized, and diverse food and farm entrepreneurs. These grants will promote business expansion, job creation, business capacity building, and increase local products in the local market. The funding is available for local food projects in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and northwest Arkansas. Business Builder grants from $5,000 to $50,000 will strengthen local and regional food supply chains by helping rural and urban enterprises start, grow, and connect. Eligible are small food and farm entrepreneurs serving local and regional food markets in the Heartland Center region. First-round grant applications are due October 15, 2024. River of Life will be hosting Ingathering3 again this year at the church in Rockville. Meetings nightly Wednesday, October 16 through Wednesday, October 23. They will feature different ministers and worship leaders/teams each night throughout the 8 days of meetings. Look for posters in the area soon or contact Pastor James Damon (jdamon@rockvillechurch.org) for more information. They will have a light meal each evening at 6:00 p.m., followed by worship beginning at 7:00 p.m. nightly. Offerings will be taken each evening for visiting ministry. Any donations to help with meeting expenses are welcome as well, but the meetings are free to attend and all are welcome. Come enjoy worshiping together with friends and family, and other brothers and sisters in Christ as it is “time for the Ecclesia to be the Ecclesia”.
Management Intensive Grazing School will be held September 10-12 at the First Baptist Church Family Life and Outreach Center in Lamar, MO. This is a cooperative effort between MU Extension, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Barton County MO SWCD, and the MO Forage and Grasslands Council to educate grazing livestock producers on forage and livestock management practices to promote optimum management and utilization of forage resources. The A.C. Fall City Wide Garage Sale dates have been set for Sept. 20 - 21. This will also be the weekend of the Saturday Street Festival, so the rental of the Park pole building, stage or lawn will not be available. Details regarding permits will be posted at a later date.
The Ellett Memorial Hospital/AC Clinic Community Block Party will be Saturday, September 28, 2024, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There are a few vendor spots left for this year’s EMH Block Party. If you’re interested in filling one of these open spots, please call Kim Raybourn at 660-476-2111. KC Wolf has confirmed making a special appearance at some point during the day. The hospital will be providing free snow cones and cotton candy, along with a bounce house. Crank Farms will be providing the petting zoo.
