Tipton Shocks Lincoln With Upset Win

Posted
It may be too early in the season to consider any game as an upset but Tipton came to Lincoln last Friday and defeated the media poll 7th  ranked Lincoln Cardinals 27-14 .Tipton without their starting quarterback, outplayed Lincoln on both sides of the ball racking up a 20-0 half time lead.
Lincoln took the first drive and was four and out. Tipton's offense ate up the clock in the first period.
Tipton's junior QB Jackson Bailey, who had the game of his life, ripped through a hole on the right side of the line for a 30 yard TD run scoring the first touchdown at the 3:14 mark. The extra point was fumbled away.
The fleet footed Bailey would score again from the one yard line. The kick was good and it was 13-0.
Then with 1:51 left in the second quarter,  Bailey would go in again from the one. The kick was good and it was 20-0 at the half.
Tipton took the opening kick and after a ten play drive, Bailey scored on a third and 11 at the 8:34 mark. It was 27-0.
Lincoln, who looked like the team of old on their first drive, would take three plays to get on the score board with a 20 yard pass from Connor Lynde to tight end Mack Hesse to make to 27-6.
Later, the Cardinals would frame another successful drive as Ross Johnson would ramble in from short yardage. A pass that QB Connor Lynde would scramble and bobble the ball before hitting Kyle Eckhoff for the PAT made it 27-14.
The fourth, saw both teams threatened but neither team scored.Tipton drove to the five and took a knee in the closing seconds after forcing a fumble.
Head Coach Brad Drehle commented,"They have some really good skilled kids and they did some things that we wasn't prepared for. They play extremly hard and fast. They covered up ours guards and center. We didn't have the ball enough in the first half to make adjustments. I didn't have us ready to play. It is not going to be about who we play as much as it is about us. We need to get better. This is just one game in a long season. Hopefully, we refocus and put ourselves in a postion to do something good."
The Cardinals now 1-1, will host Crest Ridrige this Friday at 7:00 P.M. As always, tune in to BCE TV for all of the action.
