Posted

The Warsaw R-9 All-School Reunion will be held at the new location of the John Boise Middle School, which is next to the High School (20363 Lane of Champions).

The social hour will open at 2:00 p.m. with an entry fee of $2.00 per person (if you are not purchasing a meal). This will allow time for alumni to gather to visit and meet with their respective classes. The social hour will be followed by a short business meeting at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Reservations for the dinner must be made in advance no later than May 17, 2024!

Honored classes for the 25th Anniversary will be the classes of 98/99, 73/74 for the 50th Anniversary, and 48/49 for 75th Anniversary.

The WHS Alumni Association has been delving into Ozark Echoes yearbooks from those years to cull some memorable moments.

The class of '98 had David Lemon becoming the first WHS wrestler to ever win first place at the State Wrestling meet in Columbia. Basketball first team All-Conference honors went to Nate Ballard with Scott Gemes receiving second team All-Conference honors.

The class of '99 was the largest graduating class Warsaw ever had with 106 seniors receiving their diplomas. Student council president Kristen Carleton welcomed the audience. Other speakers included: senior class president Jannie Williamson; Salutatorian Julie Simmons and Valedictorian Charlotte Cooper.

In '73, the WHS music and drama departments staged the musical, "The Music Man" under the co-direction of Joe Bockelman and Terry Allen. Debbie Flowers was senior queen candidate for the Ozark Echoes Ball.

In June 1973, Dr. John Boise became Warsaw R-9 Superintendent. Dick McDonald was president of the Student Council in '74. Darlene Bownds received Outstanding Business Award from Mrs. Louise Campbell, business teacher.

The class of '48 did not have a yearbook, but information was gleaned from the Benton County Guide newspaper. At the Warsaw School Carnival held at the Community Building on Friday, October 31, 1947 Senior class candidates Keith Miller and Nellie Scott were crowned king and queen. Warsaw Wildcat basketball team defeated Warrensburg College High to advance to Regionals. Vaughn "Pappo" Bailey made 26 points to top the sharpshooters.

The '49 Senior class decided to publish a yearbook, The Forty-niner, as a class project, since the school had not had a yearbook since 1925. Jane White was editor-in-chief. Miss Louise Moore (Campbell) was their sponsor. Seniors playing on the 23-4 basketball team were Bob Miller, Stanley Intelmann, Don and Dean Bistline, and Robert Tolliver. They were coached by Harold Holley.

Each year, the Warsaw Alumni Association gives two $1,400 scholarships to graduating seniors. It is very important we continue these scholarships. Donations can be made at any time for the scholarships through memorials, trusts, and wills. Donations can be made to the Scholarship Fund by mailing a check to the Warsaw School Alumni Association, PO Box 1528, Warsaw, MO 65355. All donations are greatly appreciated.
