Windsor Running Game Just Too Much For Cardinals

The Lincoln Cardinals scored on the second play from scrimmage on a flare pass from Riley Sanders to Chase Young at 10:47 for a 65-yard scramble to paydirt. The PAT failed and that was it in a 38-6 pounding by the Windsor Greyhounds on the road.

Rowan Cox, the best sophomore running back Lincoln has faced all season, marched in from 8 yard line for a TD. The PAT was good by Reece Heany and it was 8-6 at the 3:31 mark.

Lincoln was up for the challenge as Dawson Parrot broke one to the 3 but a fumble was called. Two referees said he was down but the third referee disagreed. Jerrick Millington recovered the fumble for Windsor. The ball changed ends at the end of the quarter and Mr. Cox broke loose for a 97-yard TD. The 2-point conversion failed and it was 14-6 and the Greyhounds took over the game from there.

Cox scored again from 15 yards out to make it 20-6. The 2 pointer was good and it was now 22-6.

The Greyhounds scored again before the half on a double hand-off for 45 yards and with the conversion it was 30-6.

Cox scored again in the third from 60 yards out and with the 2-pointer to complete the onslaught at 38-6. Tipton had held Cox scoreless the week before. He made up for it against Lincoln with over 200 rushing yards.

On a controversial play, Sanders hit Young on a 20-yard pass down field and Young took three steps before being tackled but the pass was ruled incomplete. Whatever momentum Lincoln had was then gone.

Sanders went 12 for 25 passing for 163 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception. He was also 9 for 46 rushing. Parrott finished with 5 catches for 49 yards and also had 17 rush attempts for 66 yards. Young hauled in 2 passes for 78 yards receiving. Lincoln fell to 2-3.

Coach Drehle commented, "The incomplete pass call was a 16 point swing. We were driving to score and now they go score. We have a lot of things to work on and get better."

Asked about their tackling, Coach Drehle responded, "Tackling will be just one of the things we will work on this week. The Cox kid ran hard and we didn't wrap him up on the ground. We need to get healthy and become more physical. We will have our hands full with Adrian at home next week."
