The Benton County Barn Quilt committee met briefly Wednesday, August 21 to update their progress. The group had not met recently and there was catch up to do.
The updated list of squares installed includes the Barns owned by the Beyers, the Hendersons, Warta, Lucas, Bruner, Wenig and Johnson. The total income from the grants was $3,880 and the total spent since 2023 is $2100. This leaves a balance of $1780 and that will provide funding for 7 more 4x4 size squares if there is no cost to install.
Marge Lumpe attended the meeting and learned her square is completed for the barn on the property she owns on the east edge of Cole Camp. The property belonged to her Mother-in-law Helen Lumpe and Marge wanted the quilt square to honor Helen’s love of flowers. For anyone that knew Helen she spearheaded the flower show at the Cole Camp Fair for many years.
Marge had a miniature of the square with her and she presented it to Lynette Stokes from Benton County Tourism. It was given to her for her office.Lynette has organized and managed the Barn Quilt program from the beginning and hopes to someday connect Benton County’s squares with adjoining counties that have their own Barn Quilt Trails.
