Doris L. Thompson, age 97, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri. She was born on October 27, 1928, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Maude (Bryant) Myrick.
Doris was united in marriage to Kenneth Burks in 1950. The couple made their home in Kansas City Missouri. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1969. In 1980, she married Joe Thompson. The couple made their home in Overland Park, later moving to Independence and then moved to Warsaw, Missouri, in 2009.
Doris had a deep love for Jesus and was a devoted member of Poplar Baptist Church. She found great joy in square dancing and had a passion for painting. She was especially blessed to attend painting lessons in person with Bob Ross. In addition to painting, Doris also enjoyed ceramics. Above all her many hobbies and talents, her greatest accomplishment was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother whose love spanned five generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Kenneth Burks; her second husband, Joe Thompson; one son Kenneth Burks, three brothers, Tonkie Myrick, Frances “Buck” Myrick, and Walter Myrick; and one grandchild, Stacey Marie Thompson.
Doris is survived by her children, Christina Thompson of Warsaw, Missouri, and Linda Brothers (Douglas “Doug”) of Lindsay, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kenneth Thompson (Kristl) of Holden, Missouri, Melissa Akins of Holden, Missouri, Ashley Benes (Shane) of Morrison, Oklahoma, and Dustin Brothers (Shanelle Caselman) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Akins (Justin Hall) of Independence, Missouri, Michelle Stone (Edwin) of Odessa, Missouri, Jordan Wahl (Katelynn) of Warrensburg, Missouri, Savannah Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and KC Thompson of Blue Springs, Missouri, Kaid, Kein and Kavin Benes of Morrison, Oklahoma; great-great-grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, and Harper; along with numerous extended family members and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Baptist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
