John D. Miller, age 76, of Warrensburg, Missouri, formerly of Warsaw passed away Monday, November 11, 2024 at the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. He was born on January 19, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Ruben and Juanita (Brooks) Miller.

John grew up in Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw High School, the class of 1966. He went on to graduate from Central Missouri State University where he received a bachelor’s degree and later a master’s degree in education. He was united in marriage to Sharon K. Dameron on May 30, 1971. They made their home in Green Ridge for a year where they both taught school. They then moved to Warsaw where John was the high school history teacher for the Warsaw R-9 school district for thirty years. He also was the first high school golf coach in program history and enjoyed serving in that position for several years.

John was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw, the Warsaw Jaycees, the Shawnee Masonic Lodge, the Mid-Missouri Photo Club and the Society for Creative Anachronism. He enjoyed pottery and played the trumpet in both the Warsaw High School Band and the Marching Mules at Central Missouri State. John had a passion for photography and, with his wife Sharon, ran Pinnacle Photography in Warsaw for many years. His work earned numerous awards at the Cole Camp Fair and the Missouri State Fair.

Anyone who knew John, understood his love for scouting. As a young man he earned the Eagle Scout Award and was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. As a leader, he served Troop 34 in Warsaw as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for many years while his children were in scouts. After a short break he returned to scouting, serving as a committee member and assistant scoutmaster, Charter Organization Representative, and Chairman of the Osage Trails District Eagle Board of Review. John was an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-o-say, a recipient of the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award, the Dan Beard Masonic Scouter Award, the God And Service Award and he was Woodbadge trained. John also served several sessions at Camp Piercing Arrow at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation on the commissioner’s staff. All in all, John served in scouting, again alongside his wife Sharon, for more than fifty years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sharon, his brother, Jim Miller, and an infant sister, Katheryn Miller.

John is survived by two sons; Nathan Miller, and his wife Michelle, of Warrensburg, Missouri and David Miller, and his wife Ashley, of Pleasant Valley, Missouri, three grandchildren; Erika Sauther and her husband Jacob, Gawain Miller and Isla Rose Miller

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Warsaw. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw. Interment will follow the funeral at the Fristoe Cemetery.
