Ladycats Rip Past Lincoln In Both Team's Season Opener

In a much anticipated matchup for both squads, especially because it was the first game of the season for both, the Ladycats of Warsaw downed the Lincoln Lady Cardinals in straight sets last Tuesday night; 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22.

Haylee Cobb led Warsaw with 9 kills and also picked up 9 digs. Adison Sherrill and Elizabeth Winters each tallied 5 kills. Sherill also had 1 block while Winters added 4 aces, 14 assists and 5 digs.

Maylee Slavens came in with 4 kills, 1 block and 1 dig while Kaleby Stevenson contributed 10 assists and Julianne Kilgore and Tanna Howe both recorded 6 digs.

Alyssa Mellen had a team leading 9 kills for the Lady Cardinals and also had 6 digs. Sydney Spry led Lincoln with 11 digs and Rebekah Helland led the Lady Cards with 11 assists. Cadence Harvey notched 10 digs in the loss.

The Ladycats also got the win in the junior varsity contest that preceded the varsity match. Warsaw used scores of 25-10 and 25-17 to pickup the win.

On Wednesday night, the Ladycats were on the road at Skyline for their first matchup of the season away from their home floor.

After gaining some confidence in the match from the night before, Warsaw was quickly humbled by the Lady Tigers. Skyline jumped on top quick and secured the first set with a 25-19 final and then took advantage of several Ladycats miscues in the second set to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 win.

Warsaw rallied to take the third set, 25-20, but the fourth set belonged to Skyline as they rolled 25-15 to hand the Ladycats their first loss of the season.

Cobb paced Warsaw with 16 kills in the loss. Sherrill added 7 and Maylee Slavens had 5. Sherrill also added 4 blocks.

Winters tallied 18 assists while Stevenson had 13.

Howe led Warsaw with 31 digs on the 4-set night while Sara Miller and Kilgore both recorded 13 and Winters had 11.

Warsaw did manage to salvage the night with a JV win; 25-12 and 25-19.

The Ladycats (1-1) played at Osceola on Monday and were on the road at Butler on Tuesday. They'll finish a busy week when they travel to Knob Noster on Thursday.

Lincoln (0-2), meanwhile, dropped three straight sets again to Archie last Wednesday.

They hosted Chilhowee on Monday night and will be at home again on Wednesday and Thursday when they host Lakeland and Concordia.
