Luther R. “Bud” Carey, age 90, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his home. He was born on May 5, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Luther R. and Jennie (Barr) Carey.

Bud grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Northeast High School. He enjoyed a long career as a Merchandise Buyer for Montgomery Ward. On April 8, 1975, Bud married Marsha Estes, and they made their home in Raytown, Missouri, before relocating to their farm in Warsaw in 1986. Together, Bud and Marsha ran L&M Furniture Sales in the Old Western Auto building on Main Street in Warsaw for several years. In addition to his business ventures, Bud was known for his entrepreneurial spirit as a cattle farmer. He also had a passion for golfing with friends and spent many winters in Texas near the southern border.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents, two sons; Roger and Richard, three brothers; Ray Cavender, Pete Cavender and James Carey, three sisters; Mildred Gerstel, Helen Renchen and Wanda McClain.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Carey, of the home, three children; Steve Carey, Diana Hopkins, and her husband Tom, and Stephanie Merrill and her husband Lee, of Lawrence, Kansas, grandchildren; Carey Grimsley, and her husband Joey, of Overland Park, Kansas, Kaleigh Merrill, Harper Merrill, Greyson Clemons and Finnegan Merrill, all of Lawrence, Kansas.

Bud is also survived by a nephew and honorary son, Landon Estes and his wife Brenda, of Warsaw, a great nephew Austin Estes, of Higbee, Missouri and a great niece, Ally Johnson, and her husband Kyle, of Higbee, Missouri, numerous other relatives and friends, including great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, resulting in five generations of the Carey family.

Graveside services for Bud Carey will be held at the Fredonia Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements for his cremation are under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Pallbearers are Lee Merrill, Greyson Clemons, Finn Merrill, Landon Estes, Austin Estes, Joey Grimsley. Honorary pallbearers are Bud Harris, Ken Morgan, Gerry Brooks, Mike Smasal.
