Mary Kay Matthews, 84, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
Born on December 12, 1939, in Sedalia, Missouri, Kay grew up in Hughesville, Missouri, and graduated from Northwest High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas State University. Kay taught special needs math in Fort Worth, Texas and later in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
A passionate gardener, avid reader, and skilled quilter, Kay also enjoyed playing Bunco with her friends and had a deep love for her animals. Known for her fun-loving, sometimes offbeat sense of humor, she was cherished by her family, friends, and neighbors. Those who knew her will miss her dearly.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Das and Mary McClure, her brother Jack McClure, and her first husband Billy Dean Matthews, the father of her three sons.
She is survived by her sons: David Ricks Matthews and his wife Leigh of Beaverton, Oregon; Michael Dean Matthews and his wife Phyllis of Batavia, Ohio; and Steven Lee Matthews of Warsaw, Missouri, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri.
