Cole Camp archer Garrett Elliott took 1st Place at the NASP National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, June 25.
Garrett shot his personal best score of 295 and placed 1st in the Middle School Bullseye Division out of 417 top shooters from across the nation. He also took 2nd place in the 3D tournament with another personal best score of 292.
Garrett qualified for this Championship Tournament after placing 5th in the Eastern Nationals in May along with his middle school team.
Garrett started archery in 6th grade for the first time, but it wasn't until his 7th grade year that he showed significant improvements in his score at each tournament.  He competed at nationals during his 7th grade year after placing top 10 at state and took 5th place. He then excelled his 8th grade year, shooting at an even higher level and ended up placing 1st in 3D at the Missouri NASP tournament this past March and 5th in Bullseye.
"Garrett is an extremely talented archer and I look forward to seeing where he goes during his high school career these next 4 years. I have enjoyed watching his improvement throughout middle school these last 3 years," said his coach, Tonya Nelson.
Additionally, Garrett's middle school team of 24 kids took 2nd Place at the State Tournament, which is the first time Cole Camp has won a state archery trophy.
This same middle school team competed at the Eastern National Tournament in Louisville in May where they placed 14th in 3D and 33rd in Bullseye out of over 1,000 teams across the nation.
"The journey with this group of kids has been an amazing one and I am excited to continue to build the archery program here in Cole Camp," Nelson added.
Cole Camp Middle School and High School archery teams are coached by Tonya Nelson, Terri Ward and Tracy Corpening.
Garrett is the son of Jeff and Kristin Elliott and will be a freshman at Cole Camp High School this fall.
