During a family lunch on Saturday the conversation drifted to the Missouri Supreme Court….not sure how. When I got home, I looked up a list of Missourians who’ve held that position. I used the Missouri Blue Book, our state manual. The list shows very few justices from southern Missouri. Most have come from the northeast part of the state. I found a couple of my great-grandmother’s cousins on the list. One was from St. Joe and his name was Archaeleus Marius Woodson. How’s that for a name? It ranks right up there with Julius Flavius. Many folks read classical literature back then and these names were often used and carried down generations. A nice custom! I do enjoy early Missouri history, but would have a terrible time listing all of the counties, 114 of them…or is it 113? Grab a pencil and see how many you can remember. Speaking of history, I wouldn’t mind visiting Arrow Rock again, where many of our ancestors disembarked, put their worldly goods in wagons and set out to find land for a homestead.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it.” John Adams

Let’s jump to something. The migrant crisis is out of control. In Colorado an armed crew of Venezuelans stormed an apartment building and in California a group of migrants tried to board a school bus. Bet they were looking to hitch a ride to the nearest government agency handing out phones and hotel rooms. UNBELIEVABLE! The Sheriff’s Office in Colorado said they were conducting an investigation, “To determine if a criminal act had occurred.” The Governor said the migrant crisis is “People’s imagination.” This is absolute INSANSITY! Ah well, the good citizens in Colorado and California voted for these policies and probably will again. I’m jealous of them. They have politicians that actually deliver on their promises. Meanwhile, our country continues to rot from the inside.

Time to bow of this keyboard, and will do so with an old Irish blessing. “May God not put out the light of Heaven on our souls or on the souls of the dead who are gone before us with the sign of faith.” And may lots of light surround you and protect you too Old Buddy.
