Homecoming 2024: Warsaw Shows 'They're All Wildcats'

Warsaw High School students are gearing up for the Forty-sixth Annual Football Homecoming festivities this week.

Students at all the R-IX campuses will be participating all week in various activities to raise the excitement for Friday night’s game. On Wednesday, students will participate in Beach Day then on Thursday students will dress up for Safari Day. On Friday student will participate in the traditional Color War with seniors dressing in black, juniors in white, sophomores in gray and freshmen in green. A Homecoming assembly will be held seventh hour on Friday.

The Homecoming game will be at 7:00 PM on Randy Morrow Field with the Cats taking on the Sherwood Marksmen. The Marksmen (2-1) defeated the Cole Camp Bluebirds last Friday night, 36 to 6. The Wildcats are currently undefeated as they won on Friday night in their game against the Lafayette County Huskers, 21-16.

“We hope to fill the stands with fans for Homecoming 2024,” said Wildcats head coach Ryan Boyer. “Our team is ready to take on the Sherwood Marksmen; you won’t want to miss it.”

The WHS Marching Band will perform before the game and then Homecoming Coronation will be held at halftime of the Varsity game.

Candidates for Homecoming include: Princess candidates (juniors) Adison Sherrill, Aubree Smith and Tanna Howe; Queen candidates (seniors) Brylee Brewster, Tatum Bohl and Samantha Harr. Prince candidates include juniors Brayden Henderson, Josh Harvath and Brennen Slavens and King candidates include seniors Jayce Depriest, Garret Ferguson and Jackson Deckard.

Queen candidate Brylee Brewster is involved in softball, pep club and National Honor Society.

Queen candidate Tatum Bohl is the Captain of the Varsity Wildcat Cheer squad; Captain of the Emerald Stars dance squad, Co-President of FCCLA, media and business editor of the Ozark Echoes yearbook, and class representative on Student Council. She is also involved in FBLA, Pep Club, the A+ program and a competitive dancer at All Star Dance Academy.

Queen candidate Samantha Harr is involved in FBLA and FCA.

Princess candidate Tanna Howe is involved in volleyball, softball, basketball, pep club, student council, journalism and prom committee.

Princess candidate Adison Sherrill is active in volleyball, softball, pep club and prom committee.

Princess candidate Aubree Smith is involved in basketball and Pep Club.

King candidate Garrett Ferguson is the quarterback of the Wildcat football team and is also active in basketball, baseball, student council, pep club, FBLA, NHS, and the A+ program.

King candidate Jayce Depriest is involved in football, wrestling, baseball, National Honor Society and pep club.

King candidate Jaxson Deckard is involved in FBLA, FCA, NHS, C-SIP, Student Council, track and cross country.

Prince candidate Brennen Slavens is involved in football, basketball, baseball, student council, yearbook and pep club.

Prince candidate Brayden Henderson is active in cross country, basketball, track, FFA, FBLA, FCA, Student Council, Prom Committee and the A+ program.

Prince candidate Josh Harvath is active in FBLA, FFA and sports.

After the game the Homecoming Dance will be held in the high school cafeteria until midnight.

All graduates of WHS are invited to attend Homecoming on Friday to visit with old friends and show support of WHS.

WHS history side note: The first Football Homecoming Queen was Lou DeGraffenreid Breshears. She was escorted by Mark Porter. Robyn Hessefort Kendrick was the first Homecoming Princess. She was escorted by Clay Kreisel. WHS teacher Michael Slavens was the crown bearer at that first Homecoming. The Cats lost that first Homecoming game to Archie 20 to 14 and the leading rusher for the game was Gary Martinez with 113 yards. The game was played on a Saturday afternoon because the new football field did not have lights.
