With Jamboree In Books, Lincoln Looks Ahead To Season Opener

Posted

Well, another Friday night of high school football jamborees across the state of Missouri are all said and done.

Lincoln high school hosted Adrian, Butler, Holden, Sherwood and Midway.

Avoiding two early season matchups, Lincoln played Sherwood and Midway on the west end of the field while the other three schools battled it out on the east end.

Coach Drehle explained, "You dont want to scrimmage against teams you will play early on. Later in the season, it doesn't matter because the films are out there for viewing."

How did Lincoln look? Well, there are always mixed views among the coaches, players and the fans.

Lincoln players Cam Everhart and Matthew Cook didn't think they played well.

Lincoln head Coach Brad Drehle commented, "I learned a long time ago that things are never as bad as you think and are never as good as you think. We have work to do. We will watch the film and be ready for practice on Monday."

The Lincoln offense scored late on a nice run by freshman backup quarterback Braeden Ferguson for their only tally of the night. He is the real deal and you will be reading about him this season and in years to come.

Their defense gave up three scores but played pretty well most of the time.

Elijah Smith, new at running back, looked like a force to be reckoned with in the future.

The August weather was a little warm but very nice considering it rained most of the day on Saturday. As they say, what a difference a day can make.

Lincoln is working on fixing their outdoor lights on the football field hopefully before kickoff on Friday against Willow Springs. The boys three hours and some 160 miles across the state were winless a year ago but have a former coach returning to hopefully turn their fortunes around.

The Lincoln Sports Network will have the 6:00 PM game live for all of those who can't attend.

Their gorgeous new gym and parking lot which was on display from the football field Friday night will host girls volleyball games in just a few days. If you haven't yet viewed the new facilities, you should make the effort to attend some of the early games. You will be impressed.
