Each year, as graduation approaches, the small town Sherwood community steps up in a big way to offer financial support to graduating seniors seeking to further their education through college or technical training. This year was no different. On Wednesday, May 15th, Sherwood seniors received over $97,000 in scholarship funds from local donors alone. The largest donor being local resident, Daryl Sloan, who offered $30,000 in scholarship funds to qualifying Sherwood seniors this year.
Students worked diligently filling out scholarship applications and writing essays since second semester began in January. While most would agree these recipients were absolutely deserving of scholarship funds due to their diligence both inside and outside the classroom, community and school involvement, service, and character; the real story here is how a small rural community has rallied together to offer substantial financial support to students. Seeing these community members come together and proudly support the next generation is truly the stuff small-town America is made of. Thank you to the Sherwood Community for your generous support.
In addition to the support of the immediate community, Sherwood students were offered $500,000 in scholarships through the Kansas City Organization. Great Jobs KC, and the KC Scholars program. The financial support of organizations like this make college a possibility for students who may otherwise not have the means to attend.
