City Council Updates On Pool Opening

During their recent meeting, the City Council addressed concerns about the outdoor public pool. A motion was filed to replace a 6-foot section of the original steel pipe from 1976, which needs replacement due to potential cracks or perforation that could damage the newly installed pump if not addressed. Consequently, the pool’s opening may be delayed by three weeks. Meanwhile, the indoor pool will remain open with a reduced entry fee of $2. Additionally, parking lot repairs at Artisan Park are nearing completion, ensuring better access and convenience for residents.
Issues were reported at the Deer Creek Pump Station, where the pump is clogged due to recent rain storms, and the elevator is out of order. Efforts are underway to repair the elevator and move the controls to the top level to address these problems efficiently.
An ongoing tree inventory aims to assess the health of Englewood Cemetery trees and identify any losses while marking locations and gathering data such as species, height, and width while also noting the need for tree maintenance. As well as a multi-spectral analysis done by the use of drones, this initiative is part of the broader effort to maintain and enhance the community’s green spaces.
In a significant development, the city has been awarded $120,000 for the Safe Streets and Roads for All program. This substantial funding will be instrumental in creating a comprehensive safety action plan and conducting road safety audits, thereby significantly enhancing the safety and infrastructure of our community. This initiative is a testament to our collective commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all.
The council gave unanimous consent for the Clinton Missouri Fire Fighters Association to use the firehouse on July 6th from 7 AM to 9 AM for their Annual Pancake Breakfast. This event also serves as a fundraiser for the Holiday Heros Fundraiser.
The mayor’s recommendations for appointments were all approved by unanimous consent. John Leonard was reappointed to the Clinton Housing Authority Board with a term expiring in December 2027. Jacob Kenney was reappointed to the Park Board with a term expiring in June 2027. Debby VanWinkle was reappointed to the Park Board with a term expiring in June 2027. Gary Mount was appointed to the Clinton Housing Authority Board to fill a vacancy with a term expiring in December 2024.
